Established in 1985, DISC is an independent North of England based charity that focuses on deprivation and exclusion. DISC is a specialist agency, focusing on people who have fallen through the net of statutory provision and who many agencies struggle to help. Our work is structured into four main areas:-
- Drug Initiatives - Supporting people to stop using drugs and reduce the harm to themselves and others caused by drug use
- Employment Initiatives - Helping people who are disadvantaged in the labour market to get and keep a job
- Housing Support Initiatives - Helping people to access and retain appropriate and good quality housing across North of England including Lancashire (
Compass floating Support Lancashire) - Children Young People & Families (CYPF) - Enabling vulnerable groups to live safely in the community
- Within or alongside mainstream programmes such as the New Deal for Young People and Pathways to Work
- In support of statutory agencies such as our support for offenders under the supervision of the National Probation Service in West Yorkshire and Humberside.
- In community settings, particularly in relation to regeneration
- In partnership settings such as Drugs Action Teams
