STEP2
Anti-social behaviour is a problem which affects neighbourhoods up and down the country. It can be thoughtless, inconsiderate or even malicious activity and has the potential to affect the quality of community life. The STEP2 project provides a means of working with some of the most challenging and antisocial households in society. These households are few in number but can cause disproportionate disruption and damage to the communities in which they live.
DISC deliver the STEP2 project within their Independent Living Unit. Staff provide support tailored to suit the needs of any household threatened with eviction no matter the number of occupiers within that household. If the household is living in the Districts of Easington or Wear Valley, and are threatened with or at risk of eviction, other enforcement measures or have been evicted due to antisocial behaviour we can help. Typically there will be a number of agencies involved with the household, but their anti-social behaviour will remain at persistent levels in spite of existing interventions.
The project works with all problematic members of the household using an assertive and persistent style of working to challenge and support households in any tenure to address the root causes of their anti social behaviour. A behaviour contract is agreed between each member of the household and the keyworker which sets out the changes in behaviour that are expected and support that will be provided in order to facilitate the change.
This service would be offered to households in their current accommodation. It is appropriate where the household are responsible for persistent anti-social behaviour and consequently are subject to or at risk of enforcement measures. Households receiving this service will be visited by DISC staff within their own home a minimum of three times a week.
This service is working in partnership with East Durham Homes, The Community Safety Partnership, Durham & Districts Supporting People Partnership and DISC.
