Volunteer Information
DISC is not primarily a volunteer run organisation, indeed we employ over 300 staff. However, we do welcome volunteers who wish to become involved in our work and currently support over 200 volunteers in different parts of the organisation. There are a number of DISC projects which are structured around or build in volunteering opportunities.

If you are interested in volunteering for any of the opportunities below you can download an information pack or contact us at info@disc-vol.org.uk

Volunteer Opportunities Available at DISC
The volunteers are of all ages and abilities and will achieve an OCN Level 2 (accredited) in Mentoring Skills to enable them to support our young mentees in a professional and skilled manner. This is usually the first step for a career change for many of our volunteers.

GOALS (Go out and Live)
Working in Durham and Chester-le-Street GOALS recruits, trains and supports volunteers to befriend people with learning disabilities and involve them in social activities.

OutThere
Also in County Durham, supports and trains young volunteers to promote information about the dangers of drug use to their peers.

V
V is our new volunteer programme which recruits volunteers aged 16-25 from DISC service users. We help them to achieve accredited training and provide full-time placements for 13 weeks minimum to 52 weeks maximum, each volunteer will receive up to £60 per week (including expenses), practical work experience to go on their CV relevant accredited training recognition and celebration of their achievements.

DISC is committed to the provision of training for all volunteers and in ensuring that they receive the same levels of support as our staff. We have a volunteering policy in place, copies of which can be obtained from info@disc-vol.org.uk
