New facilities for Scarborough’s Horizons Hub

An extensive basement area to greatly increase facilities for service users has been opened at North Yorkshire Horizons’ Scarborough hub in Castle Road.

North Yorkshire County Councillor Caroline Dickinson, Portfolio holder for Public Health formally open the new floor at the DISC-owned property. Also cutting the ribbon was Dr Lincoln Sargeant, Director of Public Health at North Yorkshire County Council. New facilities include five additional one to one rooms for clients to speak with workers confidentially, a new needle exchange, with a discreet entrance, a client kitchen and group rooms.

Nicky Booth, hub manager, said: “I think the basement is a fantastic, warm welcoming area and we’ve already had some great feedback from the clients. The new floor adds to the existing provision at NYH Scarborough so this expansion will greatly enhance the service delivery offer to our service users.”

Ted Haughey, Executive Operations Director at DISC, said: “DISC bought these premises in 2014 and this is our latest investment to ensure we have a purpose built space to support clients in their recovery.”
